We’re looking for interested folk to come join the Dystopia Rising: Texas marshaling team. Previous staffing, marshaling, or volunteering for and familiarity with LARP in general is a boon!
A position on our team at Dystopia Rising is no more than a four hour commitment during an event. You can volunteer more time than this, but that is the maximum requirement we ask of you when you join the team. You are welcome to play a character the rest of the event if you pay for entry.
The types of positions we are looking to fill are Coordination Marshals, Rules Marshals, Settings Marshals, and Safety Marshals.
Coordination Marshals are also referred to as “Coord”, "desk" or "card" marshals. They staff the In Game Post Office, and help players with Prints, crafting, and related tasks. This is a paperwork heavy role. Coordination marshals act as NPCs as they fill out their duties.
Rules Marshals are also known as "field" marshals, and they go out with modules (groups of monsters like zed) and handle rules calls and combat related to those encounters. A strength in or capacity to learn, teach and enforce LARP combat rules is very useful for this role. Rules marshals may also assist in set up of module sites and props for special occasions.
Settings Marshals assist in applying makeup and help set up module sites and props for special encounters. An interest or skill in efficient but effective costume makeup application is very useful in this role.
Safety Marshals inspect player’s weapons (boffers, nerf guns, etc.) and armor to ensure they’re safe for combat before game. They’ll tag equipment after ensuring the item fulfills the card’s description (ie: coverage points, specific phys-rep requirements) and write/evaluate starter armor and weapon cards for new characters. This role will need to be filled by someone who can consistently be on-site and ready to volunteer at least two hours before game on.
We are looking for inquiries from any and all interested people, but we are encouraging women, people of color, LGBTQIA+ and other minority groups to apply to join our team. Please don’t be shy, reach out to us and say hi!
If you're not ready to fill out the form below to apply, please feel free to contact us at email@example.com with any questions or concerns you may have.
