THE LAWS OF THE SAN SABA TERRITORIES

The San Saba Board has established a tradition of law and order throughout the region in the wake of the Hiway War. These are the major laws enforced by the Board and their affiliated factions:

The spilling of Blood and Bone is the prerogative of the Wastes,
But to steal the Infection of the Body, or the Work of the Hands is forbidden.

Anyone who kills or steals is considered to have broken the law. Casual Violence is permitted, even encouraged, and those who wish to make a living doing it may be interested in joining the Red Ledger as a Striker.

Brass and Contracts are our Sacred Currency.
Thems that break a Contract are a Breacher and are subject to the Gauntlet.
Anyone not holding a Contract is a Vagrant and has no voice in Company Affairs.

Contracts are the primary manner of employment in the San Saba. Society Memberships are given to those who have thrown their lot in with one of the primary Financial Institutions of the San Saba as a stakeholder of their interests, profits, and downfalls.

None shall interfere with the Delivery of the Post,
Nor the Collection of the Grave Tax.

Postal Workers, remnants of a venerated Sainthood tradition, perform the vital function of delivering the Post through Fire, Zed, and Gloom of Night. Lifeline to many a stranded settlement, a Postal Worker can be counted on to bring news, letters, and vital connection to the rest of the Wastes.

The sanctioned Grave Robbers, Tax Collectors, Auditors, Mystagogues, and Reckoners of the Grave Council hold right by fiat to maintain the Morgues of the San Saba and for this service a Grave Tax is rendered upon all who pass through their demesne.

In matters of Law and Order, the Law Dogs, Hell Hounds and Justices of Sin enact the will of the Board as their Voice and their Vigor, empowered to wield Death and Duty in their name.

If a person is accused of violating one of these laws, the Board sets forth the marshals and strikers of the Law Dogs to collect the offender and investigate their crime.  Those caught are brought before the Justices of Sin, roving representatives of the Warden that assess their crimes and assign an appropriate punishment.

Violators may be assessed a hefty fine, assigned a collective punishment of their peers through a ritual known as the Gauntlet, be labeled a contract Breacher and Vagrant, or even be cast into the depths of Prudence Penitentiary to serve penance for the most heinous of crimes. In rare instances, the Strikers of the Red Ledger may be tasked as Hellhounds, and simply remove a threat to the Board through sanctioned murder.

The growth, harvesting, trafficking, and consumption of psionic crystals and their byproducts is hereby considered dangerous to San Saba communities and is forbidden.

Following a series of violent deaths of Law Dogs in Bravado, the San Saba Board passed a firm law against the harvesting and trafficking of the drug known as Crystal Candy. The drug is commonly harvested from the living brains of screaming psions before they die, and crushed into a crystalline powder mixed with gasoline and other sundries. Stronger variants of the drug have recently flooded the region, and are known to be incredibly addictive.

Opponents of the measure suggest that a certain reading of the law could be used to make being a psion illegal in the San Saba. The Law Dogs have repeatedly stated that any suggestion that they would use this to hunt down psions or look for psionic gizmos or armor is assuming the Law Dogs would make a very uncharitable interpretation of the law. For now, their focus is entirely on the scourge of Crystal Candy in the Lone Star.
