Player Led Faction ZOMs

During our Stakeholder’s Meeting, several player-led Factions earned the recognition of the San Saba Board by completing a Skill Challenge during the event. There are five formally recognized factions because of this effort:

  • The Shields of the Lonestar

  • Ramguard

  • The Road Royals

  • Blood & Bone

  • Misfits & Maidens

These factions will have access to a Zone of Mechanics that provides an Active and Passive benefit but must be activated by investing 50 Brass or an equivalent amount of Mysterious Ore or Shards of the Red Crown at the Post Office. The Active bonus will be an UPSURGE effect that can duplicate a similar power to an Augment, while the Passive bonus will provide a discount on a skill use once per 12s, and a minor thematic buff appropriate to the faction. Players wishing to have their player-led faction will need a minimum of 10 characters and must complete the ZOM: An Air of Legitimacy.

A player can only benefit from one of these ZOMs at a time — You gotta be loyal to your crew!

The Shields of the Lonestar

This player faction has the following ZOM abilities when activated:

THE SHIELD OF THE LONESTAR (Active Faction Ability)

Requires: Society Membership (Shields of the Lonestar), Proficient Shield

Spend 1 Resolve OR spend 5 Mind and 2 Minutes with two other Shields of the Lonestar while checking your gear for the upcoming fight (for a total of 15 Mind spent).  Call “UPSURGE: Shield Master’s Grip”.  Once every five minutes, the Shield of the Lonestar player may activate the Proficient ability of a crafted Shield for 1 mind point, as per the Shield Augment “Shield Master’s Grip”.  This ability can be stacked with an existing Shield Augment, but cannot be stolen by an Overlord using a Warlord’s Faceplate.

THESE COLORS DON’T RUN (Passive Faction Ability)

Requires: Society Membership (Shields of the Lonestar), Basic Mental Endurance

Each member of this Faction may use Basic Mental Endurance once per Twelves for only 0 Mind. Additionally, if at least two members with Society Membership (Shields of the Lonestar) are within line of sight, the member may call ‘NO EFFECT, These Colors Don’t Run’ to all Fear or Terror effects.

Ramguard

This player faction has the following ZOM abilities when activated:

THE STRENGTH OF THE RAM (Active Faction Ability)

Requires: Society Membership (Ramguard), Proficient Melee Standard, Proficient Melee Two-Handed or Proficient Melee Small

Spend 1 Resolve OR spend 5 Mind and 2 Minutes with two other Ramguard while discussing tactics for fighting zed and raiders (for a total of 15 Mind spent). When the Ramguard member uses the Proficient, Master, and PFA abilities of their chosen Melee Standard, Melee Two Handed, or Melee Small weapon, add ‘HORDE BANE’ to their damage call. This ability can be stacked with an existing Weapon Augment, but cannot be stolen by an Overlord using a Warlord’s Faceplate.

FALKEN CASTLE STANDS FIRM (Passive Faction Ability)

Requires: Society Membership (Ramguard), Basic Combat Tactics

Each member of this Faction may use Basic Combat Tactics once per twelves for only 0 mind. Additionally, if at least two members with Society Membership (Ramguard) are within line of sight, a member that was interrupted while using Basic Artisan or Basic Culinary may spend 1 Mind and continue your count where you left off.  You must return to your work within 5 minutes of being Interrupted.

The Road Royals

This player faction has the following ZOM abilities when activated:

FURY OF THE ROYALS (Active Faction Ability)

Requires: Society Membership (Road Royals), Proficient Melee Standard, Proficient Melee Two-Handed or Proficient Melee Small

Spend 1 Resolve OR spend 5 Mind and 2 Minutes with two other Road Royals while bragging about your combat prowess (for a total of 15 Mind spent). Call “UPSURGE: Superior Weapon Balancing”.  Once per flurry, the Road Royals member using a Melee Standard, Melee Two Handed, or Melee Small weapon may activate the Proficient ability of the crafted weapon for only 1 mind.  This ability can be stacked with an existing Weapon Augment, but cannot be stolen by an Overlord using a Warlord’s Faceplate.

EYES ON THE ROAD (Passive Faction Ability)

Requires: Society Membership (Road Royals), Basic Awareness

Each member of this Faction may use Basic Awareness once per twelves for only 0 mind. Additionally, a character with this Faction may spend 10 Mind to get an additional item from the Basic, Proficient, or Master Trailblazing list. The character must have the appropriate level of Trailblazing to gain this benefit. This passive ability may only be used once per game.

Blood & Bone

This player faction has the following ZOM abilities when activated:

RIP & TEAR (Active Faction Ability)

Requires: Society Membership (Blood & Bone), Prof. Small or Prof. Florentine

Spend 1 Resolve OR spend 5 Mind and 2 Minutes with two other Blood & Bone members while entering into a battle frenzy (for a total of 15 Mind spent).  Call “By My Voice, All Blood & Bone: Swing Undead Bane, 5 minutes”.  For the next 5 minutes, members of this faction can declare Undead Bane on all melee strikes.  This ability can be stacked with other uses of Bane Damage but cannot be stolen by an Overlord using a Warlord’s Faceplate.

MEDICAL SPECIALISTS (Passive Faction Ability)

Requires: Society Membership (Blood & Bone), Basic Medical

Each member of this Faction may have another character assist them when using any level of Medical on a Target joining them in the active roleplay of medical care. The pair may then repeat the same use of Medical on another Target within 10 minutes at the same level and amount of healing restored for 0 Mind. Aside from this cost, you must follow the normal rules and time requirements for the original use of Medical and the same characters must participate.  Both characters must know at least Basic Medical.

Misfits & Maidens

This player faction has the following ZOM abilities when activated:

STRONG ENOUGH TO STAND ALONE (Active Faction Ability)

Requires: Society Membership (Misfits & Maidens), Proficient Unarmed

Spend 1 Resolve OR spend 5 Mind and 2 Minutes with two other members with Society Membership (Misfits & Maidens) while pumping yourselves up for the fight ahead (for a total of 15 Mind spent)Call “By My Voice, All Misfits & Maidens: Swing [Lineage] Bane, 5 minutes”.  For the next 5 minutes, members of this faction can declare Bane on the specific Lineage (Townies, Nomads, etc.) called on all unarmed strikes.  This ability can be stacked with other uses of Bane Damage, but cannot be stolen by an Overlord using a Warlord’s Faceplate.

METHODS BEHIND THE MADNESS (Passive Faction Ability)

Requires: Society Membership (Misfits & Maidens), Basic Malicious

Each member of this Faction may use Basic Malicious once per Twelves for only 0 Mind. Additionally, if at least two members with Society Membership (Misfits & Maidens) are within line of sight, the member may spend 10 Mind using Active Roleplay while acting in a threatening manner for 1 minute before asking a single question.  Call “Area of Effect, Interrogate!” as per Malicious.
